SUFFOLK COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION'S
LAWYER REFERRAL SERVICE
Please read this page carefully and completely before submitting a request for an attorney.
The Suffolk County Bar Association Lawyer Referral Service was designed to help you find a reputable, competent attorney who is in good standing practicing in Suffolk County. The Lawyer Referral Service is for those individuals who are seeking advice and counsel and this service is to give you some information about the attorney who would handle your matter. The fees for legal representation are established by each individual attorney based upon their experience, standing in the community and expertise. This will be discussed with you by the attorney of your choosing. Please do not submit a request if you are looking for a reduced fee or pro bono services.
To receive your referral, simply CLICK HERE and follow the prompts.
The Lawyer Referral Service can only be accessed online. Please do not come to our office for a referral. Referrals cannot be made in person. Please note that we do not offer free legal advice, counsel or guidance.
We do not have attorneys in our office. The attorneys on our referral service are for-hire attorneys who charge retainer fees (in most cases) and require payment.
We do not make referrals to attorneys who are not on our referral panel. We do not provide lists of our SCBA member attorneys.
Our attorneys are located in or near Suffolk, New York and will handle matters in Suffolk County, New York.
Statement of Client's Responsibilities
If there is an attorney on our referral panel suitable for your matter,
the website will charge you a $25 referral fee that provides you with up to three referrals and covers your initial conversation with the attorney of 30 minutes. You will receive an email with the attorney's contact information. You must call and email the attorney to arrange a short consultation. If the attorney agrees to take your case, and you wish to hire the attorney, they will go over their fees and costs with you.

How to Find the Right Attorney
There are general attorneys who perform a wide range of different legal services. Then there are attorneys who concentrate in specific areas of the law. For many general legal services such as residential real estate transactions, simple wills, health care proxies and living wills and other day to day legal issues, general practice lawyers are likely to provide you with the best service at the most reasonable price. If you have a litigation matter, a patent matter, a contested divorce, a large personal estate to pass on to your loved ones or a complex commercial transaction, then you are likely to need someone who works primarily in that specific area of the law.
The area of law that our referral panel is currently able to assist with is listed. If your matter is not listed, we may not have an attorney for a referral.
NOTE: WE DO NOT PROVIDE PRO-BONO (FREE) LEGAL ASSISTANCE OR REPRESENTATION.
